About
Let’s get to know each other.
I’m Alison — the eye (and heart) behind A.Voghel Photo. I’m a lifestyle and documentary photographer based in Columbus, Ohio here to capture the little glances, loud laughs, and cozy in-betweens that make life feel full.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me wrangling two small kids, working in digital accessibility, or chasing a little sliver of quiet with a cup of coffee in hand. Like most parents, I know how fast life moves — and how much it means to have photos that take you right back to the feeling of a moment.
My Photographer Origin Story
My creative roots run deep. My dad documented my entire childhood on film — we still gather around to flip through the old slides together. My mom is the kind of person who can pick up any creative activity and make it feel effortless, like she’s been doing it forever. That mix of visual storytelling and hands-on creativity shaped the way I see the world.
I picked up a camera a few times between high school art classes and actually taking a DSLR out to bars in college to capture the night's antics. How that camera survived those years, I truly do not know. Life started moving faster — marriage, full-time design work, a dog, two kids — and I needed a way to slow down and stay present.
Photography became a more consistent part of my life, my way to hold onto those quick moments. Over time, friends asked me to capture theirs too. That grew into this business — a creative outlet, a source of joy, and a way to tell the stories I believe are most worth remembering. Now, I get to help other families do the same — pause, connect, and hold onto what matters most.

What to Expect When You Work With Me
My sessions are relaxed, personal, and low-pressure. No stiff posing or forced smiles — just genuine moments captured with care. I’ll guide you when needed, but mostly I’ll observe, follow the energy, and let your real story unfold.
Whether we're in your backyard, your living room, or a field just outside town, I want you to feel like yourself. And when your gallery arrives, I want it to feel like home.
Your family’s comfort comes first — both during your session and in how your story is shared. I never use images with children’s faces in public marketing unless you’ve given clear permission. Your photos are for you first and foremost, not my portfolio.
